Live with Purpose – Define what Success Means for You
Your personal definition of success is a measure of the success of your actions and in turn how successful you feel in life…
The more you live into this definition and bring it to each moment the more purpose-filled your life will feel…
Although your definition of success reflects action it really speaks to the essence of who you are.
Let’s consider how you define success.
Three questions to help define what success means for you
Allow yourself to let go of what you think you already know in reflecting on the following questions.
1. What does success mean for me?
Take a moment to write down your answer.
Now imagine that you have come to the end of your life and you have the opportunity to look into your own funeral… Who would you like to see there? What would you like them to be saying?
Ask yourself again: “What does success mean for me?”
Consider how you are currently living your life… how does it align with your answer above? What may need to shift?
2.What do I bring to life?
Allow your heart to answer this question.
Take a moment to feel the area at the centre of your chest, level with your heart…feel all the way back to your spine… answer the question from there…
How easy was it to answer this question?
What did you notice about your answer?
What are you telling yourself about your answer?
3.What energises me?
Take a deep breath and feel the soles of your feet on the floor. Ask yourself “What energises me?” and listen for the answer.
When the answer comes into your mind, write it down.
Keep breathing and feeling your feet on the floor. Ask the question again and expand your answer.
Repeat this activity for at least a minute. Ask the question, write the answer etc…
Having finished the activity, what are your energy levels like? What do you attribute that to?
Putting it all together – clarifying your definition of success
Look back over your answers to all three questions. What do you notice? What words have you repeated? What’s really important to you? What needs more reflection?
Start expanding your definition of success.
When you’re ready, write down the key words that are important to you. Bring the words together in a sentence. Start your sentence with an action and a place to help bring the element of practice into your definition.
Here’s mine: To create a world of compassion and love where people are free to express their bigness, wholeness and oneness and live inspired, rewarding, peaceful, powerful, joy-filled lives.
What would your definition be if it were a measure of a successful moment no matter what action you happen to be taking?
Remember that how you define success is your measure of the success of your actions and in turn how success you feel in life.
The beauty of this definition is that the more you live into it and bring it to each moment the more purpose-filled your life will feel…
This is a practice reflecting the essence of who you are.
